September in Primary 7

5th Oct 2018

Primary 7 had a busy first month.  In Numeracy we have been working on numbers within millions and problem solving in a variety of ways.  We have also been exploring 2 dimensional shapes, creating pentomino drawings and attempting to work a mathematical formula for finding the circumference....we were SO close in our investigations to the actual formula!  In Literacy we have been exploring Classic Fiction, learning about authors of Classic Fiction and exploring the work of Charles Dickens and William Shakespeare.  Very interesting!  We have been able to link our ICT with this by creating a word document detailing our research.  Our World Around Us topic is The Victorians.  We have been finding out about life during the Victorian era - we are certain we don't want to go back to that era. We have loved using Newsdesk for this topic, it has lots of fact files and articles relating to the Victorian era.  We are working on creating a powerpoint so we can teach each other about famous or interesting Victorian inventions. We are looking forward to presenting these in class.  We have also completed a competition relating to Anti Bullying - some people created a poster and some created a performance piece which was videoed and transformed into an iMovie!  We have submitted these pieces of work to the NIABF and will await their judging decision.  We are also working on an Environmental Poster for Newry, Mourne and Down Council.  We are hoping some of our pieces will be chosen for the council environmental calendar. We are loving our new Religion programme 'Grow in Love', it is encouraging us this month to look at the Bible and to see ways in which God advises us on how to live a happy and peaceful life.  A busy month!
