September in P7
We welcome our P7 children back to school after a well earned Summer break. They have been working very hard in all areas of the Curriculum and are becoming accustomed to being the shining lights in St. Brigid's, leading the school with a great attitude.
In literacy, P7 have been focusing on authors of classic fiction. They have researched classic authors and read extracts from some of the most famous such as Roald Dahl, Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling and Laurie Lee. They have also written some great environmental poetry based on the Song of Hiawatha.
In Numeracy, P7 have done lots of work on Place Value to tens of millions. Reading and writing numbers with a purpose was a great start, as the P7s worked together to discover the population of some of the world's largest and smallest countries. Learning the value of each digit in a number helped with addition and subtraction, both mental and written.
In WAU P7 have been learning about The Victorian Era and how different life was, particularly for children at that time. I think they all decided that life now is much better. They are also researching Victorian inventions and creating a PowerPoint in groups to present to the class. I wonder which invention will be most interesting?
As part of our religion the class have been exploring how God speaks to us through The Bible. They have been searching through the Bible for scripture passages which still hold messages for us...thousands of years later.
We have also worked through 2 lessons of our Keeping Safe Programme, focusing on feeling safe at home and living with healthy relationships.
We have been working on Newry, Mourne and Down Environmental Posters for our Art work. We certainly have some Picassos in our class this year.
Well done P7 for a great month's work.
