September in P7

29th Sep 2020

What a busy month we had in P7! They have shown great maturity as we learn new routines to help keep everyone safe. We have been making Literacy and Numeracy our focus to really boost our brains and get us back on track after the Summer. Our Numeracy topics have been Place Value, Addition, Subtraction and Time. Some great problem solving has gone on in class and the P7s are getting much better at articulating their method. In Literacy we have been exploring the work of Classic Authors of Children's Fiction, some great research has taken place in class to help us understand the people behind the novels, it has also contributed to our Literacy display. Our Literacy tied in really well with our 'World Around Us' topic of The Victorians which we have just started. We read extracts from Oliver Twist and worked with our partner to create a diary entry/ letter from Oliver's perspective as a child living in the Victoria era. All this work will help us understand the Irish Famine as we are reading 'Under the Hawthorn Tree' as our class novel. In Religion we have been getting to know The Bible, working with our partner to find important biblical passages, a tricky but really worthwhile task. We have also started our Keeping Safe Programme, focusing on Healthy Relationships.  It hasn’t all been work, there have been some very good sporting moments during PE also. Our entire class has embraced Mathletics, Studyladder and Google classroom with diligence and maturity, Very impressive! Thank you to our parents for your excellent support.
